The correct connection information and encoder configuration settings to use to broadcast live is different depending on if you are using ShoutCast or IceCast as your stream server – in this article, we will explain how to broadcast live for both.
Please note, all of the connection settings found here, such as server hostname, port, source password, DJ account and mount point are for an example station, and should not be used for your own connection – simply replace them with your station’s connection settings.
Broadcasting live to a ShoutCast service:
To broadcast live to a ShoutCast service, you will first need to create a Broadcast Control User – also known as a DJ account. To do this, please follow our guide here.
Firstly, make sure that your DJ account has the ‘Use broadcast control user own access for live broadcast (port 8004)’ setting set to ‘No’.
The connection information to then enter into your encoder/broadcast software will be as follows:
Protocol/Type: ShoutCast
Address/server hostname: ariel.streamerr.co
Port: Your ‘Stream server port’, found in the ‘Account Information’ box on the main page of MSCP
Password: The DJ account’s username and password, separated by a colon. For example, if the DJ account username is ‘tester’, and the DJ account password is ‘testpass’, the password for your encoder software will be: tester:testpass
Broadcasting live to an IceCast service:
To broadcast live to an IceCast service, you will first need to create a Broadcast Control User – also known as a DJ account. To do this, please follow our guide here.
Firstly, make sure that your DJ account has the ‘Use broadcast control user own access for live broadcast (port 8004)’ setting set to ‘Yes’.
The connection information to then enter into your encoder/broadcast software will be as follows:
Protocol/Type: IceCast
Address/server hostname: ariel.streamerr.co
Port: Your ‘Stream server port’, found in the ‘Account Information’ box on the main page of MSCP, plus four (+4) – for example, if your ‘Stream server port’ is 8000, the port to use for live connections will be 8004.
Password: The DJ account’s password. For example, if the DJ account password is ‘testpass’, the password for your encoder software will be: testpass
Mount point: The live mount point, which by default for IceCast services using MSCP, is: /live.mp3
IceCast user/username: The DJ account’s username. For example, if the DJ account username is ‘tester’, the IceCast user/username for your encoder software will be: tester
That’s it – you should now be able to connect to your ShoutCast or IceCast service using the chosen DJ account! Please get in touch with our support team if you encounter any issues during this process, or if you need further help!
